Wordcue Privacy Policy
Last updated: July 18, 2026
Contents
This Privacy Policy explains how Wordcue ("we", "us", "our") collects, uses, shares, and protects information when you use the Wordcue mobile application (the "App"). Wordcue is developed and operated by an individual developer, contactable at support@learnenglishwithwordcue.com.
By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the App.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Account information
When you create an account, we collect:
- Name
- Email address
- Password (stored only as a securely hashed value — we never store or have access to your plaintext password)
- Profile picture / avatar URL (optional)
If you sign in with Google, we receive your name, email address, and profile picture from Google, as authorized by you at the time of sign-in. We do not receive your Google password.
1.2 Learning and usage data
To provide the App's core functionality, we store:
- Your progress on shows, seasons, episodes, and word lists (e.g. words marked as new, learning, or mastered)
- Flashcard and quiz session results
- Daily learning streaks and study statistics (study time, quiz accuracy, words learned)
- Your home-screen widget word list selection
- Notification preferences and in-app notifications (e.g. streak reminders)
1.3 Subscription and billing data
Wordcue offers an optional Premium subscription purchased through Google Play Billing. When you subscribe, our backend receives a purchase token from Google Play, which we use to verify and manage your subscription status (active/expired, renewal date, plan). We do not collect or store your credit card number or other payment card details — all payment processing is handled directly by Google Play under Google's own privacy and payment terms.
1.4 Device and diagnostic information
To keep the service reliable, secure, and free of abuse, our servers automatically receive standard technical information with each request, including:
- A device identifier generated and stored on your device (reset if you uninstall the App)
- App version and build number
- Operating system version, device model and manufacturer
- Device language and timezone settings
- IP address (processed transiently for network requests; not stored against your profile)
We also use Firebase Crashlytics (a Google service) to automatically collect crash reports and diagnostic logs (e.g. stack traces, device state at the time of a crash) so we can identify and fix bugs. This data is associated with your device, not directly with your name or email.
1.5 Content you submit
If you submit a show/movie suggestion or a support request, we store the text you provide together with your account identifier so we can respond to you and manage the request.
2. How We Use Your Information
- To create and maintain your account and authenticate you
- To provide the App's core learning features (flashcards, quizzes, progress tracking, streaks)
- To verify and manage your Premium subscription
- To send you learning reminders and in-app notifications (which you can disable in Settings)
- To diagnose crashes, fix bugs, and improve app performance and stability
- To detect, investigate, and prevent fraud, abuse, or violations of our terms
- To respond to support requests and show suggestions you submit
We do not use your data for third-party advertising, and we do not sell your personal information.
3. How We Share Your Information
We do not sell your personal data. We share information only with the following categories of service providers, solely to operate the App:
| Recipient | Purpose | Data involved |
|---|---|---|
| Google Firebase (Crashlytics) | Crash reporting and diagnostics | Device info, crash logs |
| Google Play Billing | Subscription purchase & payment processing | Purchase token, subscription status |
| Our hosting provider (backend infrastructure) | Running our servers and database | Account and usage data described above |
These providers process data on our behalf under their own security and privacy commitments, and are not permitted to use your data for their own independent purposes. We may also disclose information if required by law, or to protect the rights, property, or safety of Wordcue, our users, or others.
4. Data Retention
We retain your account and learning data for as long as your account remains active, so that your progress is preserved across sessions and devices. If you request account deletion (see Section 6), we delete or anonymize your personal data within a reasonable time, except where retention is required to comply with legal obligations, resolve disputes, or enforce our agreements.
5. Your Rights
Depending on your location, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data (e.g. via the Edit Profile screen)
- Request deletion of your account and associated data
- Object to or restrict certain processing
- Request a copy of your data in a portable format
To exercise any of these rights, contact us at support@learnenglishwithwordcue.com. We will respond within a reasonable timeframe and in accordance with applicable law (including GDPR for users in the European Economic Area, and other regional data protection laws where applicable).
6. Account and Data Deletion
You can request deletion of your Wordcue account and all associated personal data (profile information, learning progress, statistics, and subscription records) at any time by emailing support@learnenglishwithwordcue.com from the email address associated with your account, with the subject line "Account Deletion Request".
We will process your request and delete your data within 30 days, except for information we are required to retain for legal, tax, or fraud-prevention purposes (retained only for as long as legally necessary and not used for any other purpose).
7. Children's Privacy
Wordcue is not directed to children under the age of 13 (or the minimum age required by your local law), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children under that age. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can delete it.
8. Data Security
We use industry-standard measures to protect your information, including encrypted connections (HTTPS/TLS) between the App and our servers, hashed password storage, and access controls on our backend systems. However, no method of transmission or storage is 100% secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.
9. International Data Transfers
Your information may be processed on servers located outside your country of residence, including in countries that may have different data protection laws. Where required, we rely on appropriate safeguards (such as standard contractual clauses or the equivalent protections provided by our service providers, including Google) to protect your data when it is transferred internationally.
10. Changes to This Policy
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect changes in our practices or for legal, operational, or regulatory reasons. We will update the "Last updated" date above when we do. Continued use of the App after changes take effect constitutes acceptance of the revised policy.
